Temporary Resident Visa

A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that the immigration officers stick in your passport. It shows that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada. A TRV is an official counterfoil document issued by a visa office that is placed in a person's passport to show that they have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident. Holding a TRV does not guarantee entry to Canada.

TRV (Temporary Resident Visa)

You can apply for a TRV from inside Canada if you meet all the conditions below:

You should apply at least 2 months before you plan to leave Canada.

  • you're already in Canada
  • you hold a valid study or work permit
  • you want to leave and return to Canada in the near future
  • your existing visa is expired or was valid for only one entry

After you apply for a TRV

  • An original passport is demanded by CIC to stick the visa in. It will be valid up to the validity of your current permit.
